Local Activities

The Lake Country, offers the visitor an array of exhilarating outdoor activities. The varied landscape is ideal for walking and there are routes that cater for all abilities. Numerous way-marked trails, and mapped walk-ways are provided and these cover the whole region.

River cruising is amongst the many popular activities in the area. Ballyconnell (10 minutes drive), Ballinamore (20 minutes drive) & Carrick on Shannon (30 minutes drive) are some of the main developed centres on the Shannon-Erne waterway for hiring cruising boats. Hire a cruiser or a barge and take a leisurely sail down the renowned Shannon-Erne Waterway.

There are plenty of golf courses within easy reach of the property. The Slieve Russell Golf & Country Club, is an excellent championship course and is located just four miles away. Other courses include an 18 hole golf course at Carrick on Shannon, Bundoran in Donegal, Enniscrone, Strandhill and Rosses Point in Sligo, with two in Enniskillen, Fermanagh. There are also two 9-hole courses - one in Ballinamore and one in Enniskillen

The many unpolluted lakes and rivers nearby support a huge population of wild fish. Coarse fishing species include tench, bream, rudd, roach, perch, hybrids, pike and eels. There is a water here to suit all tastes. The angler seeking large open waters with the promise of outstanding bags of bream and roach can choose from the wider stretches of the rivers or large lakes such as Garadice, Gowna, Oughter, Sillan, Upper Lough Erne, Lough McNean and Lough Ramor. Those in search of somewhere more intimate and secluded will find many smaller lakes and river stretches with plenty of fish. Many opportunities exist for the specialist match angler to participate in the three and four day angling festivals. One of Ireland's major international events is the British King of Clubs which is held annually in County Cavan. Local festivals are held annually at Arvagh, Belturbet and Cootehill with one day open matches at many centres. There are many open pike competitions and festivals held through out the year which are advertised locally.

Cycling is another activity that is perfect way of seeing this beautiful countryside. The area has many quiet country lanes which are ideal for touring. Cyclists will enjoy the Kingfisher Cycle Trail while walkers will delight in exploring The Cavan Way, The Burren or The Shannon Pot, the source of the River Shannon at Keshkerrigan.

Cavan´s beautiful countryside can also be enjoyed from horseback, with excellent riding schools at Beechlane Equestrian Centre, Cavan Town, Ross House Equestrian Centre, Mountnugent or Redhills.

Coastal features - in just 40 to 60 minutes you can be at any one of the magnificent beaches in Sligo and Donegal including Rosses Point, Strand Hill, Enniscrone, Mullaghmore and Rossnowlagh.

Other outdoor activities include, horse riding, sailing, rowing, and gaelic games.
